    MAN OF THE MATCH?

    Report

Eddie Nketiah scored twice as Crystal Palace celebrated their FA Cup triumph with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at a jubilant Selhurst Park.

On a high from Saturday's historic Wembley win over Manchester City, the Palace fans were initially quietened when Emmanuel Agbadou headed Wolves in front midway through the first half.

That woke the hosts up, though, and Nketiah scored twice in the space of five first-half minutes to turn the match around.

Chelsea loanee Ben Chilwell’s deflected free-kick made it 3-1 shortly after half-time, though Jorgen Strand Larsen's 62nd-minute header reignited Wolves' hopes.

But Palace's Wembley hero Eberechi Eze came off the bench to score a clinching goal and take the Eagles beyond the 50-point mark for the first time in their Premier League history. They stay 12th in the table, with Wolves in 14th.

    How the match unfolded

After a quiet start, it was Wolves who broke the deadlock in the 24th minute. Agbadou’s close-range header appeared to have been hacked off the line by Nketiah, only for the goal-line technology to alert referee David Webb that the ball had gone in.

It took just three minutes for Palace to level though. Romain Esse darted between two defenders and pulled the ball back for Nketiah, whose effort was too powerful for goalkeeper Dan Bentley.

Nketiah had his side in front within five further minutes, tapping in Ismaila Sarr's clever cross for his second goal of the game.

The same momentum continued into the second half, as Chilwell’s free-kick took a deflection off the Wolves wall and found the bottom-left corner after 50 minutes.

Wolves kept battling and Strand Larsen looped a header over 'keeper Dean Henderson to make it 3-2 just after the hour mark.

But after a spell of Wolves pressure, substitute Eze sealed the deal with a trademark run and reverse finish four minutes from time.

A buoyant Selhurst Park crowd also bid farewell to Joel Ward, who was withdrawn to a standing ovation on his final home appearance for Palace.

    Palace prove their depth

On a night of celebration at Selhurst Park, with Palace poised to parade the FA Cup in front of their fans after full-time, it would have been easy for Oliver Glasner's men to slip below their Wembley standards.

Palace's minds looked to be elsewhere when Wolves took the lead midway through the first half – but that only prompted the Eagles to prove what a force they are.

Star attackers Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta were named as substitutes by Glasner, but that did not prevent the hosts from playing some fantastic football to get back into the game.

January signing Esse showed a glimpse of his potential when setting up the first goal, and this was perhaps Nketiah’s best outing in a Palace shirt since arriving from Arsenal last year.

Goalscorer Chilwell also impressed after coming into the team, having not started the FA Cup final, while Ward got the send-off he deserved after 13 years of service to Palace.

While Saturday's victory will live long in the memory, this one was a reminder that Palace are not totally reliant on key individuals, though Eze did deliver a late reminder of his class.

Another party atmosphere awaits Palace on Sunday, when they end their season against champions Liverpool at Anfield.

    Wolves poised for more upheaval

Having strung together six straight wins to comfortably secure their Premier League status, Wolves have now lost three in a row and their momentum under Vitor Pereira has slightly petered out.

Pereira's team selection raised some eyebrows on Tuesday, with wing-back Nelson Semedo and forward Matheus Cunha both benched ahead of rumoured summer exits.

Semedo – who will leave on a free transfer if Wolves fail to agree a new contract with the former Barcelona man – has led by example since taking the captain's armband midway through the campaign.

Yet Cunha, who has scored 15 goals and assisted six in 32 league appearances this season, will surely be the biggest miss.

The Brazilian is reportedly attracting interest from Manchester United and his side lacked cutting edge without him in south London. Following his second-half introduction, Cunha headed narrowly wide from a corner with Wolves 3-2 down.

Pereira faces a crucial few months as he looks to mould Wolves' side in his image, after they conclude their campaign against Brentford at Molineux.
