Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed head coach of Leicester City on 29 November 2024, replacing Steve Cooper. He won his first match in charge, 3-1 at home to West Ham United, four days later.
Van Nistelrooy joined Leicester following a spell at Manchester United, where he served as an assistant coach. However, following the departure of Erik ten Hag, he was tasked with managing the team for four matches - he won three of these and drew one.
Two of those victories were at Old Trafford against Leicester; an impressive 5-2 win in the EFL Cup was followed by a 3-0 Premier League success, Van Nistelrooy's final match as Man Utd's interim head coach.
After retiring as a player in 2012, the Dutchman's only managerial stint was with former club PSV Eindhoven. He initially worked with PSV's youth players from Under-17s through to the Under-19s, before being promoted to the role of head coach in March 2022.
In 2022/23, Van Nistelrooy led PSV to the Dutch Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield, before resigning ahead of the final league match in May, citing "a lack of support within the club."
Van Nistelrooy has had two spells on his national team's coaching staff. He was an assistant manager to Guus Hiddink after the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and to Ronald Koeman for Euro 2020.
As a player with Man Utd, he scored 150 goals in all competitions in five seasons, having joined them in 2001. That impressive tally ranked him 11th on the club's all-time top scorers' list.
In 2002/03, his 25 Premier League goals helped Man Utd to claim the title as well as winning him the Golden Boot and Player of the Season awards.
