In an exhilarating match at Staplewood Training Ground, Southampton Under-21s emerged victorious with a 4-2 win against Newcastle United Under-21s. The game was a showcase of attacking prowess, with both teams demonstrating their potential and resilience.

Southampton took an early lead in the 6th minute when Dom Ballard found the back of the net with a right-footed shot, assisted by Moses Sesay after a corner. Newcastle quickly responded, equalising in the 13th minute through Garang Kuol's well-placed shot, assisted by Alfie Harrison. The hosts regained the lead in the 41st minute as Sesay scored from close range, again with Ballard providing the assist. Despite being reduced to ten men following Derrick Abu's red card in the 29th minute, Southampton extended their lead in the 78th minute with Sam Amo-Ameyaw's strike, assisted by Lewis Payne. Newcastle's Josh Donaldson narrowed the gap to 3-2 in the 85th minute, thanks to Darren Palmer's assist. However, Princewill Ehibhatiomhan sealed the victory for Southampton in the 90th minute, with Ballard once more displaying his playmaking skills.

The match saw Southampton dominate with 56 percent possession, creating numerous scoring opportunities with 17 total shots, nine of which were on target. Newcastle, though outshot, made efficient use of their chances, with all six of their shots on target. Both teams demonstrated strong attacking intent, but Southampton's ability to capitalize on set-pieces and quick transitions proved decisive.

Following this match, both teams remain level on points with 19, but Newcastle hold the 7th position in the table due to a superior goal difference, while Southampton are 8th. The Saints will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming fixture against Chelsea Under-21s, while Newcastle aim to regroup ahead of their clash with Everton Under-21s.
