What is the Free Hit chip in FPL and how can it help now?

Managers in Fantasy Premier League need to start planning ahead after five matches from Gameweek 31 were moved because of the FA Cup quarter-finals.

The Gameweek 33 schedule will also be affected as it clashes with the FA Cup semi-finals.

These postponed fixtures are yet to be rescheduled, but they are expected to result in Double Gameweeks, where teams play twice in a single Gameweek.

FPL managers have a number of chips available to plan for the run-in and take advantage of such scenarios.

The FPL panel of experts reveal their preparations for the chips over the remainder of the season.

What the experts say

Ben McNair (@drbenmcnair): The best approach is to use free transfers to bring in players for the reduced Gameweeks 31 and 33, although probably not a full XI.

I will keep players like Paul Pogba (£8.8m). I would lose a lot of value by selling him so will bench him instead during his two blank Gameweeks.

I then plan to use the Free Hit chip in Double Gameweek 32, should it go ahead, then the Wildcard in Gameweek 34. Then I will either use the Bench Boost or Triple Captain in the likely event of a Double Gameweek W35.

Sam Bonfield (@FPLFamily): Now EvertonChelsea is on, we have 10 teams to pick from in Gameweek 31. By using my free transfers until then, I aim to field a full XI for that Gameweek.

I will then use the Free Hit for the likely Double Gameweek 32, use my Wildcard in Gameweek 34 and then my Bench Boost for the expected Double Gameweek 35.

I also still have my Triple Captain chip, which I’m planning to use on Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) in Gameweek 31 against Fulham, or in Gameweek 36 at home to Huddersfield Town.

Lee Bonfield (@FPLFamily): I’m planning to go on the offensive in Gameweek 32, using Free Hit to get the best possible starting XI.

Many of the teams playing in Gameweek 31 also play in Gameweek 33. Your team may not look great for Gameweek 34 as a result, so that’s the time to unleash the Wildcard, particularly as this will help you maximise the potential for points in the expected second Double in Gameweek 35.

Ben Crabtree (@FC_CrabDogg): I've used my Wildcard so my thinking is: Free Hit in Gameweek 31. I will decide my Bench Boost and Triple Captain chips closer to the confirmation of any Double Gameweeks.

Holly Shand (@FFCommunity_): I’ve used my Triple Captain. So I’m planning to Free Hit and Bench Boost for the Double Gameweeks and use my Wildcard after the reduced Gameweek 31 and 33.

I’ll hold my free transfers for a few weeks and fully commit when the first Double Gameweek fixtures have been confirmed.

Ash (@FPLHints): I have all of my chips intact, except the Wildcard. I will most likely Free Hit during Gameweek 31 and Triple Captain in a smaller Double Gameweek.

But I don't intend to sell Salah for a budget Double Gameweek replacement.
