The race for the 2018/19 Premier League Golden Boot is wide open with six players separated by only three goals.

Former Manchester United and Everton defender Phil Neville looks at the strengths of the leading contenders.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: 17 goals

Aubameyang is in the hunt to finish top scorer in his first full season in the competition.

After netting 10 times last season following his January move to Arsenal, his 17 goals in 29 appearances this term place him only one behind the top scorer Sergio Aguero.

Neville believes the Gabon international has benefited from being one of the only contenders for the award to regularly play with a strike partner.

"Aubameyang has been quietly impressive," says Neville. "We've got a player who's playing up front with a really good understanding with [Alexandre] Lacazette

"With Aubameyang playing slightly to the left-hand side it's allowed him to drift in sometimes unmarked."

Appealing run-in

Even though Neville thinks he will fall short of this season's prize, Aubameyang may well be licking his lips ahead of Arsenal's run-in.

That's because in matches against their remaining opponents this season, the 29-year-old has scored an impressive seven times.

If he can replicate those numbers the 2016/17 Bundesliga top scorer could end 2018/19 as the Premier League's best.
