Patrick Berger scored a hat-trick for Liverpool as they defeated 10-man Chelsea 4-2.
Berger hit the opener in the 20th minute, but Gianfranco Zola equalised two minutes later, only for his team-mate Bernard Lambourde to be sent off soon afterwards.
Czech Republic international Berger restored the Reds' lead before half-time and completed his treble in the 57th minute, and Robbie Fowler made it 4-1, before Gus Poyet replied with a late penalty.
Liverpool moved up four places to seventh with 15 points, while Chelsea dropped to fifth on 16 points.
2008: Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Hull City
Geovanni scored a stunning 30-yard free-kick as Hull City moved up to third in the Premier League with a 1-0 win at bottom-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
The Brazilian curled home a set-piece in the ninth minute, which was enough to give the top-flight debutants their fourth win in seven.
Spurs hit the woodwork twice through Gareth Bale and Jonathan Woodgate, while Dean Marney hit a post for Hull.
Winless Spurs stayed bottom with two points, while Hull moved up four places to third, on 14 points.
