Alexandre Lacazette came off the bench to score the only goal as Arsenal edged past West Ham United to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches.
In a bright start, Jarrod Bowen's shot was tipped on to an Arsenal post by Bernd Leno before Sokratis headed against the crossbar at the other end.
West Ham continued to threaten on the break, with Michail Antonio shooting wide from close range just before half-time.
Leno denied Antonio and Bowen before Arsenal took the lead through Lacazette after 78 minutes.
The Frenchman scored from a header across goal by Mesut Ozil, who had been flagged for offside, but the goal was awarded after a Video Assistant Referee review.
Leno saved from Sebastien Haller late on as Arsenal sealed a third consecutive victory to rise to ninth with 40 points, five off fourth.
West Ham are 16th on 27 points but are out of the bottom three on goal difference only.
