The Scout's panel of experts reveal their captain pick for Gameweek 1 in 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League and explain their reasoning.

What the experts say
Sam Bonfield (@FPLFamily)

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) is the obvious choice this week, he's been in great form in pre-season and has an attractive fixture against promoted Fulham. But I am tempted to give the armband to Harry Kane (£10.5m) in a home game to start Jose Mourinho's first full season in charge.

Pranil Sheth (@Lateriser12

As I don't own Mohamed Salah (£12.0m), my captain is Aubameyang at the moment. But if it looks like Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic (both £8.5m) are fit, Timo Werner (£9.5m) is really tempting me as I feel Chelsea have more goals in them than Arsenal.

Utkarsh Dalmia (@zophar666)

Marcelo Bielsa is unlikely to park the bus at Anfield like most promoted teams generally do, so this could be an open, high-scoring game. Salah captain.

Lee Bonfield (@FPLFamily)

As we don't really have any 2020/21 statistics on which to base our decisions, I'm looking purely at pre-season form and Aubameyang looks good. A great performance and goal in the Community Shield, supplemented with a brace in his most recent pre-season outing means the Arsenal man can hit the ground running this season.

Ben Crabtree (@FC_CrabDogg)

I will go Aubameyang for the first week. He's the safest bet for a goal and the extra midfield points over Werner clinch it.

Geoff Dance (@GeoffreyDance)

I trust Mikel Arteta to get Arsenal's season started on a positive note, and fully expect my captaincy pick Aubameyang to be involved in the goals.

Neal Thurman (@nealjthurman)

I'm a sucker for the promise of a debut goal and I think Werner might have two in him against Brighton & Hove Albion

Ben McNair (@drbenmcnair)

Don't overthink it. Salah has scored more points in each of the last three seasons than any other player on show this weekend and he's playing at home.

Chuck Booth (@ChuckBoothSport)

I struggled between Salah and Aubameyang for all of two minutes. At the end of the day while the Fulham defence has been bad, Aubameyang is more likely to let you down than Salah and I don't want to start the season on a sour note. In Salah we trust.

Holly Shand (@FFCommunity_)

My gut feeling has always been to captain Salah this week and I'm not wavering from that. He has a home fixture which, for me, gives him the advantage over Aubameyang.

Nick  (@WGTA_Nick)

It has to be Aubameyang for me. Fulham conceded 81 goals on their last venture in the Premier League, the worst record in six seasons, and the personnel remains largely the same from that season.
