The Scout's panel of Fantasy Premier League experts give their thoughts on whether Erling Haaland (£12.2m) is still the best option to give the captaincy to amid his recent run of blanks.
What the experts say
Lee Bonfield (@FPLFamily)
Haaland has enough credit in the bank with FPL managers to be a good captaincy choice any given week. This is especially true if he plays at home, where his underlying stats remain really strong.
Pranil Sheith (@lateriser12)
My faith in Haaland hasn't dropped yet. Manchester City still have world-class players and are very much fired up for the title race.
Sam Bonfield (@FPLFamily)
If you look at Haaland's stats as two separate periods in time, there is a serious drop-off in numbers. His Expected Goals (xG) from Gameweeks 1-16 was 11.05, compared to 7.01 from Gameweeks 17-21.
Players such as Marcus Rashford (£7.2m), Bukayo Saka (£8.5m) and even Harry Kane (£11.7m) could be better captaincy options. In a Double Gameweek I would look to captain someone who plays twice to maximise the potential returns.
Utkarsh Dalmia (@Zophar666)
There has been a drop-off in Haaland's FPL output and there is now a realistic alternative in Rashford, who is producing incredible numbers. But the Norwegian is capable of a hat-trick in any match, so I will be keeping the faith a bit longer.
Ben Crabtree (@FC_CrabDogg)
I benefited from captaining Rashford instead of Haaland in Gameweek 24 and will look to do this a few more times over the next few weeks. It's a good opportunity for rank gains, but the key is not to force it when Haaland has a great fixture.
Pras (@Pras_FPL)
It remains a case-by-case basis with Haaland. We are coming into a period where there will be other captain choices and we shouldn't be afraid to consider them.
