Manchester United came into this fixture with only one defeat in their last 11 matches, while Liverpool had won only three times since the turn of the year. Few would have predicted the outcome.
But Jurgen Klopp's side were in a rampant mood at Anfield, delivering Man Utd's biggest Premier League defeat, and joint-worst in their history.
Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez both bagged braces.
Roberto Firmino registered one of his final goals in a Liverpool shirt, while Mohamed Salah scored twice, and in doing so became Liverpool's highest goalscorer in Premier League history.
Despite the result, Man Utd finished in the top four ahead of Liverpool, but this scoreline will be set in the memories of fans outside of Merseyside and Manchester for a long time.
A day to remember.

In this meeting of two teams in the top four, Tottenham Hotspur proved no match for Newcastle United, who produced a devastating attacking performance at St James' Park.
The Magpies led 5-0 after only 21 minutes thanks to doubles from Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak, with Joelinton scoring the other goal.
Harry Kane pulled a goal back early in the second half, but there was no Spurs comeback.
Callum Wilson came on to restore Newcastle's five-goal lead and claim a win that helped them secure a first top-four finish in 20 years.
The result also marked the end of Cristian Stellini's status as interim head coach of Spurs.
