Liverpool have been dealt an injury blow after Trent Alexander-Arnold was ruled out "for a few weeks" with a knee injury sustained in Sunday's 2-0 win over Arsenal in the FA Cup.
"Trent hyperextended his knee during the last game," assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders told the club's official website ahead of Wednesday's EFL Cup semi-final first leg against Fulham.
"So he has a little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee and he will need time to recover. He had a scan and he will be out for a few weeks, so let's see after that.
"He will get some rest and then hopefully he can come back to where he was. Because this guy was decisive in all the games and was the one who created constantly for us from deep and gave the team a high level of flexibility. We will really miss him."
Leaders Liverpool are next in Premier League action on Sunday 21 January when they visit AFC Bournemouth, before a home match against Chelsea 10 days later and a trip to Arsenal on Sunday 4 February.
Liverpool's next five PL fixtures
The Reds will have Virgil van Dijk available again for the cup meeting with Fulham, though, with the centre-back recovering from the illness that forced him to miss the victory over Arsenal.
Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai remains out with a hamstring issue, although the Hungarian is back in light training.
Impact in Fantasy
Alexander-Arnold is owned by nearly 30 per cent of Fantasy Premier League managers, and is currently the fifth most-bought player ahead of Gameweek 21, with 410,000+ snapping up the defender.
