Southampton have signed defender Ronnie Edwards from Peterborough United.
The 21-year-old has moved to St Mary’s Stadium on a four-year deal and is the fourth Southampton signing of the summer, after Adam Lallana, left-back Charlie Taylor and Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Manchester City.

Edwards told the club website: “Obviously from what happened last year they (Southampton) had an unbelievable season. The manager seems like he’s got a great bunch of lads and they’ve got a real togetherness, and the style of play Southampton plays suits me the best."
Manager Russell Martin said: “Ronnie is a supremely talented footballer with a lot of games already under his belt and a healthy level of experience, even at 21 years of age. He shows amazing courage to play, and possesses all the attributes we would look for in a young defender.
Southampton’s first match back in the Premier League is at Newcastle United on Saturday 17 August.

Who is Ronnie Edwards?
Born in Harlow, England on 28 March 2003, Edwards began his footballing journey aged nine with Barnet.
After progressing through the club’s academy, he went on to make five first-team appearances in the 2019/20 season.
Following a successful trial with Peterborough in August 2020, Edwards signed for them and make his debut in an EFL Trophy match in September 2020.
Despite Peterborough’s relegation from the Championship in 2021/22, Edwards impressed and was named Player of the Season. He also won the EFL Player of the Month prize in January 2024.
Edwards has played for England at Under-19 and Under-20 level.
