Chelsea have completed the signing of Renato Veiga from Swiss club FC Basel.
The 20-year-old, who can play in defence and midfield, joins Chelsea on a seven-year deal, with an option to extend by another year, and becomes their fifth signing of the summer window.
Veiga follows the arrivals of centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo, a free transfer from Fulham, attacking midfielder Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa, Marc Guiu from Barcelona and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City.
“I’m absolutely buzzing to be here,” Veiga told the club’s official website. “This is one of the biggest clubs in England – the biggest for me – and I’m just really excited to get started.”
Who is Renato Veiga?
Born in Lisbon, Portugal on 29 July 2003, Veiga began his career in Sporting's academy in 2010.
He made his debut for Sporting B in September 2020 and spent the next two years in the third tier of Portuguese football with the side.
In January 2023, he completed a loan move to Bundesliga club Augsburg, spending seven months there and making 13 appearances before joining Basel later that summer.
Veiga has represented Portugal at Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 levels.
Chelsea start their pre-season schedule with a match against Wrexham in California on 24 July.
They begin their Premier League campaign by hosting champions Manchester City on 18 August.
