Just 24 hours after insisting that Kevin De Bruyne was not leaving Manchester City, Pep Guardiola was less certain regarding the future of goalkeeper Ederson.
Like, De Bruyne, the City No 1 has been linked to a move to the Saudi Pro League, but while Guardiola answered, “Kevin’s not leaving” in response to a question on Tuesday, speaking after the 4-3 pre-season defeat by Celtic in South Carolina, he was in more doubt about Ederson’s future.
“I don't know - he has to see maybe now other options,” Guardiola said of his ‘keeper, who had featured for the second half of the friendly.
“Of course I'd like him to stay. Depends now the clubs. I don't know the situation, no contact in the last days. A question of training and being with us until the transfer window finishes and we see what happens.
"He's been the 'keeper for the team that has [had] incredible success the last seven or eight years. We have an incredible three 'keepers, especially the two who play regularly. A really important position in the team. Really good team [of 'keepers]. We will see until the last day of the transfer window when anything can happen. Not just Ederson but many players."
Ederson missed the final matches of last season through injury, with his replacement Stefan Ortega stepping in to make some crucial saves that kept City on course for a fourth Premier League title in a row.
Haaland on target
In City's first pre-season match, Erling Haaland got himself on the scoresheet with a towering header from Oscar Bobb's cross. Fellow Norwegian Bobb also scored City's opening goal and provided another assist for their second, slotted in by Maximo Perrone.
