Why the players were nominated
Farid Alfa-Ruprecht: The 18-year-old German winger scored four goals as Manchester City impressively won all three of their PL2 matches last month. He bagged a brace in the 5-0 victory over Everton, scored the opener - and also assisted Jaden Heskey - in a satisfying derby win away at Manchester United, and netted once again as Aston Villa were defeated 4-1.
Jamie Mullins: The Irish midfielder, 20, played a key part as Brighton & Hove Albion won both their PL2 matches in September. After putting in a superb display in the narrow 1-0 success at Nottingham Forest, he contributed an assist in the 3-0 away win over Middlesbrough to cap a solid month.
Callum Osmand: Fulham's fantastic start to the PL2 campaign has a lot to do with the 18-year-old Welshman. He assisted twice in a 4-1 success at Tottenham Hotspur before creating another, this time in the 5-2 victory over Sunderland. His team have now won four successive matches, scoring three goals or more in each one.
Freddie Simmonds: Brighton's 16-year-old centre-back is showing composure beyond his years after being handed his big opportunity in the Under-21s. Simmonds helped the Seagulls keep successive clean sheets in away wins at Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest.
Ethan Wheatley: One of four players leading the PL2 top scorers' chart on five goals, the 18-year-old Man Utd forward found the net in September's derby defeat to Man City and then helped himself to a hat-trick to earn a 5-3 win against Norwich City. The 250th United academy product to make his first-team debut, back in April, is pushing for another chance in Erik ten Hag's side.
Charlie Whitaker: The 21-year-old midfielder helped Everton recover from a shaky start to September to end the month in better form. After a 5-0 defeat against Man City, Whitaker was on target to help the Toffees see off Sunderland 4-3 before scoring twice in a 3-3 draw with Reading.
Harry Whitwell: It was a prolific month for the 18-year-old, who netted five times for West Bromwich Albion in September. Whitwell started the month with two goals as Stoke City were beaten 5-0, before bagging another brace - which included a stoppage-time winner - to beat Chelsea 2-1. The midfielder then found the back of the net in a 1-1 draw with Southampton.
Jacob Wright: The 19-year-old was a central figure for Man City during the month, as he helped them to three wins from as many PL2 matches. He began by setting up two goals against Everton, then created another against Man Utd before playing for just over an hour in a 4-1 win at home to Villa.
