Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou says his side were not good enough in Thursday night's 1-0 defeat at AFC Bournemouth, making it only one point from two matches since their standout 4-0 victory at champions Manchester City.

Dean Huijsen headed in the only goal of the match in the 17th minute to inflict Spurs' seventh defeat from their last 11 Premier League away matches.

It leaves Spurs 10th in the table, six points behind Man City in fourth.

“Disappointing, really disappointing. Not good enough,” Postecoglou told the club’s official website. “We’ve, again, allowed a game of football to get away from us, and a lot of it is self-inflicted. We started the game really well, but then conceded a really poor goal.

"When you come to places like Bournemouth, it’s going to be a tough game anyway, in these conditions, but you give them a goal and it allows them to dictate the game, and we didn’t cope well with that.”

“We don’t do ourselves any favours by allowing the opposition to play the game they want to. It’s not good enough, and something for me to ponder and do something about.”

Spurs' last six matches in all competitions

Meanwhile, Postecoglou spoke after the match about his interactions with the club's travelling support at Vitality Stadium following the final whistle.

"I didn't like what was being said, because I'm a human being," Postecoglou added. "But you've got to cop it. I've been around long enough to know that when things don't go well, you've got to understand the frustration and disappointment."

Up next for Spurs is a London derby against in-form Chelsea on Sunday, while they also host leaders Liverpool before Christmas following a trip to bottom side Southampton.

Spurs' next five PL fixtures

Defender Ben Davies made his 300th Premier League appearance on the south coast, becoming the fifth Welshmen to reach that landmark, along with Ryan Giggs (632), Gary Speed (535), Robbie Savage (346) and Simon Davies (303).

But Davies was forced off with an injury in the second half, adding to Spurs' problems in central defence, with first-choice pairing Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero both currently sidelined. Spurs are also currently without Guglielmo Vicario (ankle), Rodrigo Bentancur (suspension), Richarlison (hamstring), Wilson Odobert (hamstring) and Mikey Moore (illness).

"It looks like a hamstring," explained Postecoglou on Davies. "Obviously, he's played a lot of football recently. We'll have to see how he is."

Huijsen makes history

Bournemouth defender Huijsen made history by becoming the Cherries’ youngest Premier League scorer ever and first teenager to do so for them, aged 19 years and 235 days old.

Huijsen's goal v Spurs

Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola was full of praise for the 6ft 5in Spain Under-21 international.

“I think he has been involved in six or seven games, so for someone who is 19, in the Premier League, is really amazing,” Iraola said after the match.

“Today I think he showed what we know he has, good level on the ball, strong personality, think he was good defensively and obviously if you have the extra of the goal it is always very nice.

“He is confident on the ball too. He is good news for us. He needs and is demanding the opportunities and I think he will get them more now Marcos Senesi is injured, so he will get the chance more and more. It is good for us that he has found the level.”

It was a second consecutive win in the Premier League for Bournemouth this season, the first time they have achieved that in 2024/25. They will aim to make it three in a row when they travel to Ipswich Town on Sunday.
