Ten KEY questions for this weekend's matches

The theme of this week's Fantasy Challenge is "New Year, New Chance". In this Gameweek, each big chance created is worth an additional five points. There is an unlimited budget for your nine-a-side team.

Here, FPL expert Sam Bonfield reveals her approach for Gameweek 20.

Goalkeepers

Unsurprisingly, very few goalkeepers have created big chances this season. Indeed, only four have managed to do so and two of them face each other in Gameweek 20.

Liverpool's Alisson (£5.4m) and Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana (£5.1m) have both created one big chance each. If choosing between those two, I would go for Alisson, as Liverpool are more likely to keep a clean sheet.

The other two goalkeepers that have created a big chance are Mark Flekken (£4.4m) and Ederson (£5.3m). Ederson was easy to rule out this week as he has missed the last three Gameweeks through injury. Flekken, who returned from injury against Arsenal last time out, created a big chance that led to an assist against Newcastle in Gameweek 15, and with an attractive fixture at Southampton, he is the goalkeeper I have opted for this week.

However, with goalkeepers not often creating big chances, those with the best fixtures, such as Emiliano Martinez (£5.0m) and Bernd Leno (£5.0m), at home to Leicester City and Ipswich Town respectively, are both also great options this week.

Defenders

There have been some fantastic performances in attack from the defenders in the game this season. Fulham's Antonee Robinson (£5.0m) has been the standout defender for assists so far this season, with seven. Wolves' Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.8m) is second with five assists, while Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m), Lewis Hall (£4.8m) and Nathan Collins (£4.6m) all have four assists each.

However, it is important to not just focus in on the assists and big chances created, but also to pick defenders with the best chance of a clean sheet, which is why I have opted for Lucas Digne (£4.6m).

The Aston Villa left-back has created 11 big chances this season, from a total of 36 chances created overall. He therefore has a good chance of an attacking return against a Leicester defence who have conceded 19 goals across their last seven matches, as well as strong potential for a clean sheet.

Alongside Digne, I have picked both Robinson and Alexander-Arnold. Alexander-Arnold has created 17 big chances, more than any other defender in the game. Both these defenders also have fixtures with the potential for a clean sheet against Ipswich and Manchester United respectively, as well as the ability to pick up assists and the extra five points for every big chance created.

Milos Kerkez (£4.7m) was another that I considered. However, Everton's defence has been a lot more solid since Jarrad Branthwaite (£4.8m) returned from injury, and therefore his potential for an attacking return and extra points feels inferior to Alexander-Arnold, Robinson and Digne.

FPL Challange GW20 line-up
Midfielders

Even if Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) stood no chance of benefiting from the additional points in FPL Challenge this week, he would still have been my first midfielder selected. Salah has recorded 12 double-digit hauls already this season and was the first player to reach 200 points. This is the eighth season in a row that Salah has recorded more than 200 points; the next-best is four seasons each by Frank Lampard and Thierry Henry.

In addition, Salah should also benefit significantly from this Challenge. His 13 assists this season are more than any other player. Indeed, among all midfielders, only the injured Bukayo Saka (£10.3m) and Chelsea's Cole Palmer (£11.4m) have created more big chances than the 14 of Salah. This is why I have also selected Palmer alongside Salah, with the Egyptian being my captain.

Son Heung-min (£9.9m) was another player that I considered, but the fixture at home to Newcastle put me off. Newcastle have kept four clean sheets in a row while Son is out of form, having failed to produce an attacking return over his last three outings, also missing a penalty.

It is a shame that Morgan Rogers (£5.5m) is suspended for Gameweek 20, otherwise he would have been a great pick against Leicester.

Kevin De Bruyne (£9.4m) almost feels like a differential pick at the moment. The midfielder has missed a large chunk of the season through injury, only making eight starts for the champions. I will be keeping a close eye on the team news and swapping him out if he does not get the start, but having created seven big chances across his eight starts, De Bruyne seems very likely to register the additional points against West Ham if he gets named in the starting XI.

Forwards

This week I have gone with two forwards as part of a 3-3-2 formation, due to midfielders generally being more likely to create big chances and pick up the additional points.

Like with Salah, Alexander Isak (£9.2m) would have picked himself, regardless of the Challenge this week. The Newcastle star has now produced attacking returns in each of his last six matches, racking up 62 points. However, Isak has great potential to rack up extra points, too. He has created seven big chances, which can only be bettered by suspended Matheus Cunha (£7.0m) among forwards.

The final slot goes to Ollie Watkins (£8.8m). He has created four big chances this season and should also have a great chance of registering a goal or an assist against a weak Leicester defence. With Jhon Duran (£5.8m) suspended, Watkins is also guaranteed good minutes in Gameweek 20.

I did consider Dominic Solanke (£7.5m) this weekend, as he ranks third for big chances created among forwards. However, like with Son, his appeal is dented by Newcastle's impressive defensive form. Raul Jimenez (£5.6m) and Cody Gakpo (£7.3m) could also be really nice differential picks if they are named in the starting XI for Fulham and Liverpool respectively.
