Just four points separate the top three in our Clash Across the Pond league in Fantasy Premier League Draft as our eight experts continue their head-to-head battle.

Steve Rothgeb still leads the way, with fellow US pundit Neal Thurman now third.

We caught up with Neal ahead of the Gameweek 21 waiver deadline of Friday 29 December, 14:00 GMT, to find him plotting changes with the transfer window now open.

Virgil van Dijk's big move to Liverpool could just be the first of many deals that will shake up our Draft squads.

The Dutchman will surely become a mainstay in a Reds defence that has already kept nine clean sheets.

If he is still available in your league's free agent pool, I recommend you get your waiver request in.

Dutchman assured starter

Fantasy managers have had to work around Jurgen Klopp's rotation policy to this point, but Van Dijk's arrival will finally give us an assured starter.

The situation could be typical of several players swapping clubs or arriving in the game in January.

It is obvious that draft managers should react to big signings like Van Dijk and snap them up.

New players to rely on

But there could also be value in acquiring players who lock down a position previously subject to rotation.

For example, Manchester United may move for a regular starter at left-back, while both Everton and Southampton could strengthen in attack, ending the uncertainty in their forward lines.

That would be a huge development given the lack of striker options in many draft leagues.

With the transfer window open, this is a time to track developments and act quickly in the waiver market.

As Premier League managers will testify, a few astute signings can make all the difference.
