Dean Saunders’ first-half double secured victory for Aston Villa away against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Saunders struck in the 26th and 44th minutes, and although Mark Bright pulled a goal back for the hosts after the break it was not enough.
Villa climbed into ninth spot, one place and two points behind Sheffield Wednesday.

David Beckham scored one goal and set up another as leaders Manchester United left it late to triumph at Aston Villa.
The match was goalless after 81 minutes, but Beckham gave his side the breakthrough before laying on an 89th-minute Ryan Giggs strike.
United moved seven point clear of second-placed Liverpool at the top, while Aston Villa dropped to 14th in the table.
