Callum Slattery missed a late penalty for Southampton in their goalless draw at Norwich City.
Southampton's Jack Rose was forced into early action, tipping a deflected shot from Nelson Oliveira on to a post.
After the break, Harry Hamblin failed to make the most of a goalmouth scramble for Southampton after a dangerous Tyreke Johnson free-kick.
The best chance for a breakthrough came shortly after Enzo Robise came on for Southampton in the 81st minute.
The substitute was fouled in the area, but Slattery's penalty was kept out by William Johnson.
It meant Southampton saw the gap to leaders Reading grow to three points, as they sit in second on 21 points. Norwich are 10th with 11 points.
