Which managers are getting the most points in FPL?

An assessment of the first 24 Gameweeks of 2024/25 shows how the table-bonus element of the Assistant Manager chip plays a significant part in a manager’s potential.

Remember, if your chosen manager faces a club ranked at least five places higher in the Premier League table at the start of the Gameweek, you get an EXTRA 10 points for a win, so 16 in total, or an additional five points for a draw, so eight in total.

Essentially, that tactic offers a far greater upside, albeit with a higher degree of risk. 

The Assistant Manager chip is active for three successive Gameweeks.

If you had been able to use it from the start of this season, the best score you could have got so far is 47 points by picking AFC Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola (£1.1m) across Gameweeks 8-10.

Notably, seven of the top-scoring eight managers across a rolling three-Gameweek period have profited from at least one table-bonus win against a club ranked at least five places higher in the Premier League table.

Liverpool's Arne Slot (£1.5m) is the exception, amassing 34 points in Gameweeks 17-19.

The table above also shows why investing in the "the new manager bounce" when a club changes their head coach is proving a very useful tactic with the Assistant Manager chip.

Wolverhampton Wanderers' new head coach Vitor Pereira (£0.8m) has a best score of 41 points over three Gameweeks, handing him second place.

David Moyes (£0.5m) has also made a major impact since returning to take charge of Everton.

Over 416,000 managers played their Assistant Manager chip on the Toffees boss for his DGW24 against Leicester City and Liverpool. Moyes collected 12 points in Everton's 4-0 win over Leicester last weekend, taking his tally to 40 points in his last three matches and earning him third place in the assessment. 

Breaking down Iraola's top score

Between Gameweeks 8-10, Iraola collected 16 points for EACH of Bournemouth’s victories over Arsenal and Manchester City. He earned six points for the win, PLUS another 10 points for each table-bonus win.

A further eight points came from a draw with Aston Villa – three for the draw and five more for a table-bonus draw. 

Iraola was also awarded five points from Bournemouth’s total goals and picked up two more points for the clean sheet against Arsenal.

Slot is more consistent

As the leaderboard at the top shows, while Iraola has the best score across three Gameweeks, he sits joint-third on 175 points to the 193 points of Slot, highlighting the Dutchman's reliability for providing returns with the Assistant Manager chip.

Nonetheless, the 13-point disparity between Slot and Iraola's best rolling three-Gameweek scores helps to show why title-challenging clubs have a lower ceiling for points, because they get NO opportunities to face a team who are ranked at least five places higher.

Breaking down Slot's top score

Slot's best run was across Gameweeks 17-19, when Liverpool won all three of their matches against Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and West Ham United to earn the Dutchman 34 points. 

Those victories helped Slot gather 18 points, while he picked up a further 14 points for each of Liverpool's goals, plus two points for a single clean sheet.
