Youth Engagement
Children and young people are the heart of our work and the purpose of the Premier League Charitable Fund.
Hundreds of thousands of young people take part in Premier League programmes, funded through the Premier League Charitable Fund, every year. We believe in the power of youth to drive positive change and in the power of football as a force for good.
Premier League Charitable Fund Youth Engagement strategy
In Season 2022/23, the Premier League Charitable Fund launched its Youth Engagement strategy, which sets clear, agreed direction for meaningful engagement with five-to-25-year-olds in 2022-2025.
The strategy outlines how the charity works collaboratively with the network of Club Community Organisations (CCOs) and partners, to deliver our strategic goals and support participants to achieve their potential and positively impact their communities through the power of football.
Protect the Planet Challenge
This season, more than 90 CCOs supported by the Premier League Charitable Fund to deliver one or more Premier League programmes have been invited to participate in the Protect the Planet Challenge.
Funded by the Premier League and #iwill through the national lottery community fund, the Protect the Planet Challenge aims to:
- Reduce the barriers to participation in youth social action for young people through embedding a national challenge consistent across all Premier League Charitable Fund funded programmes
- Develop young people’s knowledge, skills and attitudes whilst they positively contribute towards their community
- Empower young people to take positive action around climate change
- Increase knowledge and understanding about environmental sustainability and climate change
The Protect the Planet Challenge inspires young people aged eight-18 with a priority focus on eight-13-year-olds, to develop and deliver sustainability social action projects in their local community.
Young people are empowered to develop youth led climate action projects following the six #iwill principles for high quality Youth Social Action.
Currently, 160 projects are running across more than 90 CCOs. More than half are delivered in education establishments.
Premier League Youth Summit
The annual Premier League Youth Summit began in Season 2020/21 with the aim of involving and supporting young people in positive conversation, while empowering them to tackle issues that affect their communities.
More than 1000 young people have contributed to the discussions to date.
The Summit brings together young people from across the Premier League Kicks and Premier League Inspires programmes, offering them an opportunity to share their views on the issues that are affecting them and their communities, including equality, diversity and inclusion, community safety and youth employment in their area.
Power of Youth Charter
The Premier League Charitable Fund is a signatory of the Power of Youth charter.
The charter aims to recognise young people for their efforts, empower more young people to make a difference, and give young people opportunities to shape their future.
