Manchester City moved to the brink of the Premier League title with a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
Pep Guardiola’s side went ahead on 22 minutes. Vincent Kompany’s ball over the top was converted coolly by Gabriel Jesus.
Three minutes later it was 2-0 as Hugo Lloris brought down Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan dispatched the penalty.
Spurs halved the deficit three minutes before the break. Harry Kane played in Christian Eriksen and Aymeric Laporte’s tackle ricocheted off the Dane into the net.
City withstood more Spurs pressure to score next on 72 minutes. Shortly after missing a glorious chance, Sterling pounced on Lloris’s save of a Jesus shot.
City move 16 points clear of Manchester United and will be crowned champions if United drop more than two points at home to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday or at AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday.
Otherwise, a win at home to Swansea City next Sunday will guarantee City the title.
Spurs remain fourth but the gap above Chelsea has closed to seven points.
