Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez had chances for Wolves in the first half with Newcastle soaking up pressure, before Salomon Rondon shot wide for the visitors.
Newcastle took the lead 11 minutes after the break when Fabian Schar slid a pass to Isaac Hayden, who shot past Rui Patricio at his near post.
January signing Miguel Almiron made his Magpies debut off the bench as the visitors looked set for three vital points before Boly struck.
Wolves stay seventh on 39 points while Newcastle are 16th on 25 points, one clear of the bottom three.
