    MAN OF THE MATCH?

    Report

A late double from substitute David Datro Fofana secured Burnley a 2-2 draw against Fulham at Turf Moor.

Goals from Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Muniz had put the away side in control, but Fofana’s late double earned the Clarets what could be a crucial point in their fight against relegation and denied Fulham a first away win in 11 matches.

    How the match unfolded

Fulham opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Palhinha. A whipped corner to the front post from Andreas Pereira was met by the midfielder, who guided the ball past James Trafford.

It did not take long before the visitors doubled their lead. A long ball over the top by Antonee Robinson was latched on to Muniz, who lifted the ball over Trafford for his first Premier League goal.

Marco Silva’s men continued to exploit the space in behind the Burnley defence and dominate possession, giving the Clarets no breathing room. Robinson’s long ball found Pereira, who couldn’t squeeze his shot past Trafford at the near post.

Vincent Kompany's best way back into this match was through the elusive Wilson Odobert. The winger bundled his way through Fulham’s defence, but dragged his shot wide.

In the second half, Hjalmar Ekdal was replaced by deadline day signing Maxime Esteve. Josh Brownhill nearly gifted Muniz a second goal. The midfielder’s throw-in was straight into the path of the young forward, however, Sander Berge was there to block the shot.

The Cottagers continued to pile on the pressure forcing Trafford to make back-to-back vital saves, denying Willian’s curling effort before tipping Tosin Adarabioyo’s header over the crossbar, then preventing Muniz’s near-post strike from creeping in.

On 71 minutes substitute Fofana pulled a goal back for Burnley. Another deadline-day signing Lorenz Assignon sent in a back-post cross that evaded the onrushing Bernd Leno and was met by the Chelsea loanee to head into the empty net for his first goal for the Clarets.

This prompted a late surge from Kompany’s side, and in the first minute of stoppage time Fofana levelled the match.

Odobert’s cross found the forward, who poked the ball past Leno to unleash delirium at Turf Moor.

Burnley remain in 19th on 13 points, while Fulham move to 12th on 26 points.
