What's in a number? Why 2-6 is perfect for Poch 🎁

6-2 is a special scoreline no matter the match, but to do it on the road carries extra sentimental significance for Mauricio Pocehttino: "It’s my present for my wife," said the Spurs boss. "We got married 26 years ago, and a fantastic way to celebrate tonight."

What a guy. What a day. What a Matchweek: 34 goals in all! The Premier League really is the gift that keeps on giving - and we're back on Boxing Day!

Two brilliant performances 👇
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino:

"We played very good football, it was fantastic. When you play that way you must be very proud .That gives us an unbelievable feeling - It was so tough in the beginning, we dominated the 90 minutes and were much better than them. We have a very busy period but this is a fantastic way to start it"

Everton captain Seamus Coleman:

"to go 1-0 up was important, especially at home, and it possibly should have been 2-0 through Dominic [Calvert-Lewin]. It looked like there was nothing wrong with it. At times our commitment wasn't there and that was disappointing. The [first] goal affected us more than it should and we never got back into it"

More reaction from Merseyside

We'll hear from the managers shortly, but Everton captain Seamus Coleman has spoken to the press, and while he certainly feels his side should have been two goals up, he doesn't mince his words when it comes to the Toffees' performance...

SQUAD GOALS - Poch salutes his troops
Premier League - Everton v Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs striker Harry Kane on the title race:

"Everybody's been talking about Liverpool and Manchester City, and we've been getting on with it and doing well, like we normally do. We've had a good month and hopefully we can take that into January now - and February - and we'll see where we're at come April time"

Six goals on the road, six points off the summit...

...and a serious statement of intent ahead of the second half of the season. Spurs have topped the five-goal tally away in the PL for the first time since May 2017 - a 7-1 win at Hull City, when Marco Silva was in charge of the Tigers. Another curio: Pochettino's side are yet to draw in the league this season!

Spurs hero Son Heung-min:

"We dominated the game from the start and we were unlucky to go 1-0 down, but we showed our mentality and bounced back, scored six goals at a tough ground and we’re happy to get the three points"

Not to mention the bonus points... 🙌🙌🙌
And here's The Scout on Spurs' double-scorers:

"In the last eight Gameweeks, no player has been involved in more PL goals than Harry Kane or Son Heung-min - who have both been involved in ten."

"Who got the assist," you say? Well, about that...

Those with Spurs attackers in their Fantasy sides, we salute you - guessing you've enjoyed that one! We've got a note here from FPL Towers regarding Spurs' opener:

"After review, the assist for Spurs' 1st goal is awarded to Harry Kane. The touch on his pass did not deviate it from the intended target, Son Heung-min."

Goal-orious at Goodison

With two for the hosts and six for the visitors, that's your highest-scoring Premier League game of the season so far. And those two goals for Harry Kane draw him level with Mo Salah in the race for the Golden Boot with 11 strikes, one behind Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after his brace against Burnley.

Rajat Chauhan emails matchdaylive@premierleague.com:

"Asked for 3 at the start of the match, instead Spurs gave me 6 ⚽!!!
Heading into the next round with a Bang.!!! 😎

FULL-TIME Everton 2-6 Spurs

A lesson in attacking football from Mauricio Pochettino's men, and a real early Christmas present for those Spurs fans who made the trip to Merseyside. Two for Harry Kane, two for Son Heung-min, and goals for Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli have lifted Spurs to third, two points shy of Man City. What. A. Win.

😬
Everton 2-6 Spurs (90 mins)

Ooh, Harry Kane fancied that one! With the game winding down, Ben Davies turns the ball inside for Lamela, who flicks the ball over the top, and over the shoulder of Kane, who tries his luck with a volley... but barely catches the ball! The things you can try when you're on a hat-trick...

DOUBLE TROUBLE - Dynamic duo
Everton FC v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Everton 2-6 Spurs (88 mins)

Free-kick for Spurs, a little further out than the one Eriksen took that led to Kane's first goal. It's the Dane over this one again, trying to find the far post this time, but it's deflected behind for a corner.

Solomon Berhane emails matchdaylive@premierleague.com:

"As an Arsenal fan and FPL player I am loving and hating this game. I have son and Kane in my team which has put me top of my league and through the cup, but it's painful watching our arch rivals thrashing a side we beat 2-0 by luck."

Everton 2-6 Spurs (85 mins)

Schneiderlin sends the ball forward for Bernard on the left, and the Brazilian cuts inside to try his luck but is blocked out. Still Everton come, Calvert-Lewin trying to connect with a cross from the right that is just out of reach, before Skipp draws a foul from Kurt Zouma to relieve the pressure.

Reckon there's more, too!
Everton 2-6 Spurs (83 mins)

It's a measure of how good Spurs have been today that Everton really haven't been that bad, at least in attack. Gylfi Sigurdsson tries to reduce the arrears with an instant hit through the bodies but Hugo Lloris is behind it. And that's his final act - he's replaced by Cenk Tosun, while Spurs switch Moussa Sissoko for Lucas Moura.

KANE & SIMPLE - Tidy finish for the sixth

jeremy nyoike emails matchdaylive@premierleague.com:

"As a Chelsea fan I now fear for our chances for the top four with Tottenham and Arsenal breathing hard on our necks."

Everton 2-6 Spurs (79 mins)

Richarlison left the scene shortly after Spurs' sixth to be replaced by Bernard, the Toffees' second change. His first involvement is to send a raking ball cross-field that is far too much to ask of Theo Walcott, and before the goal kick is taken, Oliver Skipp comes on for Son Heung-min.

In good company
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville:

"Fantastic. Son's run can't be matched and Harry Kane sees the ball coming from a distance, he's the man that can do it. Clinical, ruthless, fantastic goal again from Tottenham Hotspur."

GOAL! Everton 2-6 Spurs (KANE, 74 mins)

Harry Kane at the double! It's another clinical move at pace from Spurs with three delightflu first-time passes: Ben Davies plays the perfect ball down the left for Son to motor onto, crossing low for Kane to slot home first-time. It's the Spurs striker's fourth consecutive brace against Everton.

Always has a smile on his face:
Everton 2-5 Spurs (72 mins)

Toby Alderweireld  does well to fashion a clearance under pressure in the left-back corner, but Seamus Coleman heads square for Tom Davies, who is felled by Christian Eriksen. The Dane stops the quick free kick and is cautioned, and once the ball comes in it is recycled for Lucas Digne to cross and Richarlison to head over.

Rhys Thomas emails matchdaylive@premierleague.com:

"Kane + Alli + Son + Eriksen + Son : WIN"

Everton 2-5 Spurs (68 mins)

There's a break in play as Moussa Sissoko gets tangled up with Tom Davies in midfield, twisting his knee in the process. But the Spurs man is good to continue, even with Mauricio Pochettino in a position to think about resting the legs of his key players.

SONDAY SERVICE - How good is this guy?
Premier League - Everton v Tottenham Hotspur
Everton 2-5 Spurs (65 mins)

Everton are understandably chasing the game now, and Spurs almost capitalise instantly as Ben Davies puts the ball through for Lamela to chase in acres down the middle. But Pickford is alive to this one, and blasts the ball clear.

Clincal.
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville:

"The touch from Son is absolutely wonderful because it gets wrapped into him by Lamela. It's so difficult for defenders with those passes. Son can go either way and in the end he puts it through Pickford's legs."

GOAL! Everton 2-5 Spurs (SON, 61 mins)

Everton are split open once more, and this time it's right through the heart of their defence! Erik Lamela waits for Son Heung-min to make the darting run between Zouma and Keane, and he's timed it to perfection, nudging the ball between Pickford's sprawling legs.

Everton 2-4 Spurs (61 mins)

Dominic Calvert-Lewin plays a loose ball in midfield, and in chasing it down Theo Walcott has hurt himself. Spurs knock the ball out to let the Everton forward receive treatment, but he's back to his feet.

STAT!
Everton 2-4 Spurs (57 mins)

After that flurry of activity it's got a bit scrappy for a moment. Everton's efforts to work the ball forward see Davies, Richarlison and Walcott all lunging to move the ball on as the move breaks down, before Erik Lamela ends a bit of back-and-forth with a handball on halfway.

DANE DELIGHT - Eriksen doesn't miss those
Premier League - Everton v Tottenham Hotspur
Everton 2-4 Spurs (53 mins)

A first change for Everton, and it looks enforced - Andre Gomes is trudging off to be replaced by Morgan Schneiderlin.

Will Everton get level?
GOAL! Everton 2-4 Spurs (SIGURDSSON, 51 mins)

Don't write Everton off just yet! Richarlison looks inside from the left flank, picking out Gylfi Sigurdsson with four Spurs defenders in front of him. The No.10 dribbles right before a snap-shot back to the left post that Hugo Lloris can't palm clear!

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville:

“Amazing, absolutely amazing from Christian Eriksen. It's not the best header from Seamus Coleman. When it falls on the edge of the box, you're thinking that's the man you want it to fall to. So brilliant from Christian Eriksen."

Hard to stop them!
