Liverpool conceded a goal in stoppage time to suffer a 2-1 defeat by Wolfsburg in their opening Premier League International Cup match at Prenton Park.

Michael Beale's side, who had won their previous four Premier League 2 fixtures, fell behind six minutes after half-time when Josip Brekalo snapped up a rebound after Reds goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher had parried Anton Donkor's shot.

Substitute Brooks Lennon looked to have earned a point for Liverpool when he equalised in the 81st minute from Ben Woodburn's pinpoint pass.

But Hendrik Hansen headed in from a short corner to give the German side the points.

Liverpool are in Group C with Leicester City and Porto, who are their next opponents on 2 November at Prenton Park.
