1998: Everton 1-4 Aston Villa
Everton fell to a 4-1 defeat against Aston Villa, as the Toffees missed a chance to pull clear of the relegation zone.
Julian Joachim headed Villa in front after 12 minutes, but they were pegged back before the break as Mickael Madar equalised.
Gary Charles restored the visitors’ lead in the second half before Dwight Yorke struck twice, including one from the penalty spot, to secure a big win for the Midlanders who moved up to 11th.
Everton’s fifth defeat of the season at Goodison Park left them just two points above the bottom three.
2010: Liverpool 3-0 Sunderland
Fernando Torres’ two goals swept aside Sunderland to maintain Liverpool’s hopes of a top-four finish.
The Spaniard took his tally to 18 for the season with a goal in either half at Anfield. Torres opened the scoring in the third minute with a majestic strike into the top corner.
Glen Johnson’s fine long-range effort doubled the lead, and the full-back went on to create Torres’ second which the striker converted with a precise finish.
The win moved Liverpool up to sixth, and four points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, while Sunderland remained 13th on 35 points.
