Southampton beat Newcastle United 3-0 at Staplewood Campus to go top of Group A in the Premier League Cup on Friday afternoon.
Marcus Barnes scored twice in the first half for the hosts before Olufela Olomola converted a penalty won by Lloyd Isgrove in the 78th minute.

It leaves Saints with six points from their opening three PL Cup matches, while Newcastle are on four points ahead of Bristol City and Swansea City, whose match was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Southampton are next in action at home to Sunderland in Premier League 2 on Friday 9 December. Newcastle host Aston Villa at St James' Park in PL2 three days later.
