Alan Shearer's team of the season so far

Premier League Champion and the competition's record goalscorer Alan Shearer has selected his team of the 2019/20 season so far.

GK: Dean Henderson (SHU) 

It was tough to leave out Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, but Sheffield United's season has been one of the best stories of the campaign and Henderson has been key to their success. The Manchester United loanee has kept 10 clean sheets and his bravery and confidence belie his 23 years. He is a star in the making.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold (LIV)

The 21-year-old has enjoyed another sensational campaign. His superb delivery from the right has helped him to 12 assists, second only to Kevin De Bruyne across the entire league. Not bad for a right-back! Defensively, he's played all 29 matches for a Liverpool team who have kept a league-high 12 clean sheets.

CB: Virgil van Dijk (LIV)

A complete central defender. Van Dijk combines athleticism, power and an ability to read the game in leading the Liverpool backline. The Dutchman also provides a real threat inside the opposition box, scoring four goals this season. 

CB: Jonny Evans (LEI)

The Northern Ireland veteran has enjoyed a fantastic season as part of a Leicester City defence who have shown great consistency throughout. Strong in the air, comfortable with the ball at his feet and a great leader, Evans has played a crucial role in the Foxes' quest for a top-four finish.

LB: Andrew Robertson (LIV)

Does he ever run out of gas? The 26-year-old boasts incredible stamina and covers every blade of grass down the left for Liverpool. Robertson's tenacity spreads throughout the whole team and he provides a key outlet in attack for the Reds. Alexander-Arnold is the only defender to set up more goals than Robertson's seven this term. 

CM: Jordan Henderson (LIV)

Hugely important to Liverpool. A tireless worker with superb ball-winning skills, Henderson helps shield the defence when the full-backs go flying forward. What really stands out are his leadership skills. He drives his team on with his energy and has upped his attacking contribution too, with three goals and five assists.

CM: Kevin De Bruyne (MCI)

Another wonderful season from the brilliant Belgian. De Bruyne is the first player in Premier League history to provide at least 15 assists in three different campaigns and is now just four off Thierry Henry's single-season record of 20. He has already equalled his best goal return for a season, with eight, and is just about the only player exempt from Pep Guardiola's rotation policy. How can I leave him out if Pep doesn't?  

FWD: Sadio Mane (LIV)

Mane has grown from strength to strength this season. His 14 Premier League goals have been worth 18 points to his team, more than any other player in the competition. Rapid, powerful and deadly in front of goal, the Senegalese has been unplayable at times this campaign.

FWD: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (ARS)

With 17 Premier League goals, Aubameyang is just two behind top scorer Leicester's Jamie Vardy as he targets a second successive Golden Boot. The Gabon striker has pace to burn, brilliant movement and has scored consistently despite often being deployed out on the left.

FWD: Sergio Aguero (MCI)

Aguero scored in each of Manchester City's opening six matches and, in the 6-1 victory over Aston Villa in January, beat my own hat-trick record, with his 12th top-flight treble. With a goal every 88 minutes this has been the Argentinian’s most prolific campaign to date by that metric and he has now surpassed Henry to become the top-scoring overseas player in Premier League history. He remains simply sensational.

FWD: Jamie Vardy (LEI)

What a season. The league’s top scorer has netted 19 times and, at 33 years of age, is showing no signs of slowing down in a Leicester team who play fast, attacking football. He scored in eight straight matches earlier in the season and needs just one more goal to become the 29th member of the Premier League's 100 Club.
