Alan Shearer is encouraging football fans not yet vaccinated or waiting for a booster against COVID-19 to get their jab.

The Premier League's record goalscorer and inductee to the Premier League Hall of Fame urges supporters to play their part so they can help save lives and protect others in the fight against coronavirus.

"We all want to keep safe on a matchday and the best way we can protect ourselves and other people is to get vaccinated," said Shearer.

"If you're eligible, get your booster booked as soon as possible for the best possible defence against COVID for you and your family."

Shearer's message echoes one that Jurgen Klopp gave to Liverpool supporters.

"If I come across friends or people I care about in my life away from football and they tell me they haven’t had a jab yet, I do my best to encourage them to listen to experts," Klopp said. "It’s never a case of, 'Listen to me' – it's always, 'Listen to those who know.'

"Ignore those who pretend to know. Ignore lies and misinformation. Listen to people who know best. If you do that, you end up wanting the vaccine and the booster."
