Peter Schmeichel says it's an honour to be inducted into the 2022 Premier League Hall of Fame, adding that he always wanted to make sure his career as a footballer was memorable.
The former Manchester United goalkeeper was one of six men who were voted into this year's Hall of Fame by fans and a panel of football experts.

"I'm very honoured to be inducted into the Hall of Fame," Schmeichel said. "I understood straight away that your career is only for a very short period of time. You have to make the best of that opportunity and make sure you're someone who is remembered because you did something."
The Dane is the first goalkeeper to be inducted, having won five Premier League titles during his seven seasons with United. Schmeichel was an imposing figure between the posts as United dominated English football in the Nineties, keeping 128 clean sheets in 310 Premier League appearances. He remains the only 'keeper to have won the Premier League Player of the Season award, having done so in 1995/96.
"When I was a kid in Denmark I used to fall asleep to this dream of playing for Manchester United," he said. "The team I was part of was so good that winning the Premier League once was special, but we felt we had to retain it to prove ourselves and it was a dream come true for me to win five titles."
Schmeichel was inducted into the 2022 Hall of Fame alongside Wayne Rooney, Patrick Vieira, Paul Scholes, Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, Didier Drogba and Ian Wright.
All inducted players receive a medallion engraved with their name and the year of their induction, with a £10,000 donation made by the Premier League to a charity of their choice.
