An injury to winger Dwight McNeil soured a 1-0 win for Everton in Saturday's pre-season friendly at Stoke City.

McNeil hobbled off midway through the second half while the match was still goalless.

Amadou Onana bundled home a James Tarkowski header in stoppage time for Everton’s winner, their fourth goal in their four friendly matches.

Arnaut Danjuma made his first appearance for the Toffees since signing on loan.

The equaliser cancelled out Kyogo Furuhashi’s opener and came from Joe Hart’s foul on Matt Doherty in the area.

Blades win late

Iraola sees home defeat

New AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola saw his team suffer defeat on his first match at Vitality Stadium, as the Cherries went down 3-1 to Atalanta.

The Serie A side were two-up inside 36 minutes, but Marco Senesi pulled a goal back after Dominic Solanke’s header was cleared off the line.

A second-half goal from Emmanuel Latte Lath sealed the win.

Morris's instant impact

Luton Town came from behind to beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Hillsborough.

Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu cancelled out Wednesday’s early penalty midway through the first half with a brilliant curling strike.

Carlton Morris came on with a quarter of an hour remaining and struck the winner eight minutes later to show the predatory instincts that made him Luton's top scorer in their promotion campaign, with 20 goals.

The Luton captain Tom Lockyer also enjoyed his first 90 minutes of action since he collapsed early in the Championship playoff final in May.

Hammers suffer first defeat

West Ham United lost 3-1 at Rennes for their first defeat of pre-season.

A trademark Tomas Soucek header from Emerson's cross equalised for a strong Hammers squad that included Lucas Paqueta for the first time this summer, midway through the second half, but two late goals gave the French side victory.
