Ferguson's treble, which took him to 10 goals in 24 top-flight appearances, hugely impressed Alan Shearer, the Premier League's record goalscorer and Hall of Fame inductee.
Shearer, who burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old with a hat-trick on his full debut for Southampton, hailed 18-year-old Ferguson as "a special talent".
He includes Ferguson and Brighton team-mate Billy Gilmour in his Matchweek 4 Team of the Week.
