Erik ten Hag’s 50th Premier League match in charge of Manchester United was a happy one for the Dutchman as he saw his side return to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Luton Town thanks to a second-half strike from Victor Lindelof.

How the match unfolded
Rasmus Hojlund had the first good chance of the match in the 10th minute as the United forward got on the end of a cross from Marcus Rashford, but Thomas Kaminski made a great save from point-blank range.
Rashford, who became the youngest player to feature in 250 Premier League matches for the club, almost saw his weak shot deflected in, but the ball sneaked past the post.
While Man Utd dominated, Andre Onana had to make a diving save nine minutes before the break to deny Carlton Morris’s unmarked header.
Alejandro Garnacho then hesitated when through on goal in the 41st minute, allowing Issa Kabore to deny him.
Hojlund had a good chance to break the deadlock just three minutes into the second half, but his glancing header went wide of the left post. The striker later went off with an apparent injury.
United finally got their goal in the 59th minute through Lindelof, pouncing on a loose ball inside the box and smashing it past Kaminski for his first goal in almost three years.
Rashford and Scott McTominay both had chances to double the lead in the 70th and 81 minutes respectively, but Kaminski saved both efforts.
Back-to-back victories move Man Utd to sixth on 21 points, although Ten Hag received his third yellow card and will be suspended for the trip to Everton in a fortnight.
Luton drop to 18th with six points.
Key stats
- Man Utd have won each of their last 19 home league games against Luton in a run stretching back to 1899. In English Football League history, only Everton's 22 home wins over Fulham between 1961-2018 is a longer home winning run against a specific opponent.
- Erik ten Hag has won 30 of his 50 Premier League matches in charge of Manchester United, drawing six and losing 14. This total is the most of any United manager in their first 50 top-flight games in charge of the club.
- United have won each of their last 11 Premier League games against newly promoted sides, their longest such run since winning 12 on the bounce between May 2011 and March 2013.
- Luton have conceded at least once in all 12 of their Premier League games so far (22 in total), with only Leicester having a longer wait for their first Premier League clean sheet, a goalless draw with Blackburn in their 19th game back in December 1994).
- All four of Lindelof's Premier League goals have come at Old Trafford. Indeed, only Ronny Johnsen, with seven, and Gary Neville, with five, have scored more Premier League goals for United only on home soil.
