Alex Keble looks at what AFC Bournemouth need to do in the summer transfer window to improve their squad.
AFC Bournemouth
Andoni Iraola’s excellent debut campaign is made all the more impressive considering the injuries to their key signings from last summer.
Of the circa £100 million spent on five players, Milos Kerkez was the only one to start more than 12 matches.
Alex Scott, Tyler Adams, Hamed Traore and Romain Faivre will all feel like new signings, and so major surgery isn’t required for Bournemouth to progress.
However, they did concede 50 open-play goals from an open-play Expected Goals (xG) of 43.24, and that 6.76 difference was the fourth-biggest in the division.
Bournemouth also conceded the fifth-most goals in the competition, with 67, pointing to the need for a new goalkeeper - they have signed Alex Paulsen, though he is likely to be a signing for the future - as well as a towering centre-back - their 46.5 per cent of aerial duels won was the third-worst figure in the division.
Key positions to target: Goalkeeper, centre-back
