Alex Keble looks at what Arsenal need to do in the summer transfer window to improve their squad.
Arsenal
There is very little work for Mikel Arteta to do this summer and certainly nothing that needs attention defensively - Arsenal kept 18 clean sheets and conceded the fewest goals, with 29.
Although Kai Havertz ultimately found his feet as a "false nine", there are question marks over whether Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard, plus Havertz, quite matches the level of Manchester City’s forwards.
Arsenal's Expected Goals (xG) was recorded at 77.48 in 2023/24 but they outscored their post-shot (xG) by 19.5 goals - by far the most in the division, suggesting they had quite a bit of luck seeing so many of their shots beat the goalkeeper.
A new striker is the priority (Havertz scored 13 goals, less than half of Erling Haaland’s total of 27), and perhaps a new left-winger too. Martinelli ended the season with only four assists, while Trossard managed just two.
Key positions to target: Left wing, centre-forward
