Football writer Ben Bloom analyses the Matchweek 34 action so far, with Nottingham Forest still to host Brentford on Thursday, after Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions, Ipswich Town were relegated and Wolverhampton Wanderers' remarkable winning run continued.
On the weekend that Liverpool wrapped up their 20th English title in comprehensive fashion, a few of the teams behind them claimed victories as the fierce battle for European qualification continues.
Wins for Newcastle United and Chelsea could prove crucial, while Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion both triumphed.
Wolves’ remarkable recent upturn continued with a sixth consecutive victory, but there was little joy for the remaining clubs near the foot of the table, with the bottom five all losing.
Defeat and relegation for Ipswich means all three promoted sides from last season will make an immediate return to the Championship.

That Chelsea have not lost a Premier League match at home to Everton since November 1994 – an enormous 30 matches – suggests it was little surprise to see Enzo Maresca’s side run out winners again on Saturday.
The hosts maintained their hunt for UEFA Champions League football next season with a lone Nicolas Jackson goal after 27 minutes.
It ended Jackson’s run of 13 Premier League matches without scoring, while it was also the first time Chelsea have netted in the opening half of their last seven league fixtures.
Everton did not manage a shot until the 45th minute and have now scored only 12 away goals, fewer than any other Premier League side this season.
The visitors were without injured defender James Tarkowski, who failed to start a Premier League match for the first time since joining Everton ahead of the 2022/23 season. Tarkowski had started 111 consecutive games in the competition, bringing an end to the third-longest run of starts for an outfield player in Premier League history, after Wayne Bridge (113) and Frank Lampard (112).
David Moyes’ side have won just one of their past nine matches.

A week after striker Niclas Fullkrug questioned the “mindset” of West Ham United’s players, Graham Potter’s side shipped two late goals to suffer defeat at Brighton.
Potter has won just three of his 14 matches in charge, while only the relegated trio of Southampton (five), Ipswich (five) and Leicester City (four) have collected fewer Premier League points than West Ham during Potter’s reign.
His side led 2-1 heading into the 89th minute, thanks to goals from Mohammed Kudus and Tomas Soucek.
Both were assisted by Jarrod Bowen, who has now reached at least 15 goal involvements in three different Premier League seasons for West Ham (22 in 2021/22, 22 in 2023/24 and 16 in 2024/25), becoming only the second player to do so for the club after Paolo Di Canio (29 in 1999/00, 16 in 2000/01 and 15 in 2001/02).
However, Kaoru Mitoma equalised after 89 minutes and Carlos Baleba struck three minutes later to secure a Brighton victory that may prove crucial in their quest for Europe.

A facile Newcastle win sealed Ipswich's fate and ensured all three promoted sides have been immediately relegated from the Premier League for the second successive season. Previously, this had only happened in 1997/98.
The match tipped Newcastle's way after 37 minutes when Ben Johnson was sent off for two bookable offences, almost exactly mirroring the timing of Leif Davis’ dismissal in defeat against Arsenal the previous weekend.
Johnson’s red card was Ipswich’s fifth this season – the joint-most of any team, alongside Arsenal.
There was no jeopardy thereafter, with Alexander Isak, Dan Burn and William Osula all scoring.
While Osula’s goal was his first in the Premier League, Isak took his tally to 22 in the competition this season, the most of any Newcastle player in a top-flight campaign since Alan Shearer also scored 22 in 2003/04.
Newcastle’s 78.0 per cent share of possession was the highest by any team in a Premier League match this season.

A familiar story for all manner of reasons at St Mary’s. There was nothing new about Southampton taking the lead through Jack Stephens, but so too when the hosts succumbed late on to lose yet again.
Southampton have now dropped 28 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season, more than any other side.
The hosts had dominated the opening half, going ahead through Stephens’ first goal in 79 matches, as Fulham failed to have a single shot on target.
But substitute Emile Smith Rowe produced an equaliser and Ryan Sessegnon completed the turnaround in the 92nd minute. Sessegnon has had a hand in six goals across his last eight Premier League appearances (four goals, two assists) – as many as in his previous 59 games in the competition combined.

Marco Silva’s changes again proved crucial; Fulham’s substitutes have now scored 15 Premier League goals this season, the joint-most of any side in the competition’s history.
Fulham have scored three injury-time winners this season, a league high, while Southampton have conceded 11 Premier League goals after the 90th minute – the joint-most by a side in a single campaign.

In brushing aside Leicester, Wolves notched their sixth successive top-flight win for the first time since October 1970.
Since Vitor Pereira’s first Premier League match in charge just before Christmas, only Liverpool and Newcastle, with 14 and 12 respectively, have won more matches in the competition than the 10 of Wolves.
There were familiar architects of this victory, with Matheus Cunha opening the scoring and providing two assists. The Brazilian has been directly involved in 21 Premier League goals this season (15 goals, six assists); only Raul Jimenez in 2019/20, with 23, has had more goal involvements in a single campaign in the competition for Wolves.
Rayan Ait-Nouri provided the assist for Cunha’s goal, meaning he has been directly involved in more Premier League goals this season than any other defender (11 in total: four goals, seven assists).
Leicester have won just one of their last 19 Premier League matches. With four games remaining in his Leicester career, Jamie Vardy failed to add to his 198 goals for the club in all competitions when he missed a penalty.

Andoni Iraola extended his own unbeaten run against Manchester United to four Premier League matches, but the AFC Bournemouth manager will rue Sunday’s game.
Not only did Rasmus Hojlund’s injury-time goal grab a point for the visitors – Man Utd’s latest equaliser away from home in the Premier League on record (since 2006/07) – but Bournemouth are set to be without forward Evanilson for three matches after he was dismissed following a VAR review for a challenge on Noussair Mazraoui in the 70th minute.
Antoine Semenyo had given the hosts an early lead with his 13th goal of the season across all competitions. But the draw delivers a blow to Bournemouth’s European aspirations.
Since Ruben Amorim’s first match in charge of Man Utd in November, his side have won just six of their 23 Premier League matches. Only Southampton (one), Leicester City (two), Ipswich (three) and Tottenham Hotspur (five) have won fewer matches during that time.

There were jubilant scenes at Anfield as Liverpool secured their 20th English top-flight title to move alongside Man Utd with the joint-most by any side.
The hosts ran Spurs ragged after Dominic Solanke's early opener had put the visitors ahead, with Liverpool's victory ensuring Arne Slot became the fifth manager or head coach to win the Premier League in their first season after Jose Mourinho (2004/05), Carlo Ancelotti (2009/10) and Antonio Conte (2016/17) - all with Chelsea - plus Manuel Pellegrini (2013/14), with Manchester City.
Mohamed Salah, who took his Liverpool tally to 183, was one of five different Liverpool scorers. Only Harry Kane (213 for Spurs) and Sergio Aguero (184 for Man City) have scored more goals for a single Premier League club than the Egyptian.
Spurs have now lost 19 Premier League matches this season – their joint-worst tally in the competition (alongside 1993/94 and 2003/04).
It also ensures they will finish the season in the bottom half of the table for the first time since 2007/08, when they ended the campaign 11th. They are currently in 16th place.
