To celebrate Brighton & Hove Albion v West Ham United being the 10,000th Premier League match, we asked past players to name their favourite.

Joleon Lescott

Having grown up supporting Aston Villa one might forgive Joleon Lescott for having conflicted emotions about playing his boyhood club.

But when asked to select his favourite match, the former defender selects a 1-0 away victory for Manchester City against the Villans.

It was the 2011/12 season and Roberto Mancini's side required victory to move above Manchester United, their fierce city and title rivals.

The pressure was on but Lescott rose to the occasion by scoring the only goal of the match, and one which would prove vital in City’s successful quest for a first Premier League title.

“It was the season when we went on to win the league for the first time and being a Villa fan it was nice to score a goal and be assisted by a hero of mine, Gareth Barry, so we quite enjoyed that one," explains Lescott.

“Every goal you score is a great feeling, but that one was massive due to the fact that we had to win all of our remaining games until the end of the season."
