1999: Abel Xavier joins Everton

Portuguese defender Abel Xavier signed for Everton.

He spent two and a half seasons at Goodison Park, making 43 Premier League appearances, before moving across Stanley Park to Anfield in January 2002.

Xavier became only the fourth player to swap Everton for their Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

He went on to play for Middlesbrough and made a total of 75 PL appearances, scoring twice and playing his part in 15 clean sheets.
