Watford won a home league match against West Bromwich Albion for the first time since 1994 to move into the top half of the Premier League.
The hosts capitalised on a promising start when Troy Deeney’s deft header fell to fellow forward M’Baye Niang, who took a touch on the edge of the area before arrowing a spectacular strike into the top corner.
Just after half-time Deeney became the first Hornets player to score in four consecutive home PL matches, outmuscling two West Brom defenders to finish from close range.
The victory moves Walter Mazzarri’s men up to ninth in the standings, while West Brom stay eighth.
