Fabian Schar scored his first two Premier League goals as Newcastle United beat Cardiff City 3-0 at St James' Park.
The Swiss centre-back surged forward, charged into the penalty area and finished superbly for the opener on 24 minutes.
He made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute with a close-range finish after Matt Ritchie's corner was flicked on by Jamaal Lascelles.
Ayoze Perez, who had twice earlier been denied by Neil Etheridge saves, added a third in stoppage time as he turned in Salomon Rondon's cross.
Victory moves Newcastle up to 17th place on 21 points, two points and one position above Cardiff.
