Ed Francis's late goal clinched Wolverhampton Wanderers a 2-1 victory over Stoke City to put them top of Division 2 with one match left.
Dion Sanderson's powerful header had given Wolves an early lead but Stoke levelled through Daniel Jarvis on 25 minutes.
But Francis struck in the 86th minute, putting Wolves above second-placed Reading on goal difference.
Wolves will stay top going into the final round of matches if Southampton, who lie a point back in third, do not beat West Bromwich Albion on Thursday.
The champions will get automatic promotion to Division 1 while teams ranked second to fifth will compete in the playoffs.
Stoke remain eighth.
