Watford secured their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw at Newcastle United.
Will Hughes’s second-minute goal gave Watford a strong start at St James’ Park.
Hughes kept his composure to finish past Martin Dubravka after Tom Cleverley’s long-distance shot was blocked but ran kindly to his team-mate in the area.
Newcastle responded well and levelled before half-time through Fabian Schar.
Emil Krafth’s cross into the box was not cleared and Schar beat Ben Foster with a firm shot.
Newcastle had the upper hand in the second half with Isaac Hayden twice testing Foster and Yoshinori Muto shooting into the side-netting, but Watford held on.
