A Simon Francis foul gave Joao Moutinho the chance to break the deadlock with a pinpoint free-kick from the left on 21 minutes.
Raul Jimenez's sixth goal of the season doubled Wolves' lead before Francis was dismissed for a second bookable offence before half-time.
Steve Cook reduced the deficit with a header and Nathan Ake was denied an equaliser at point-blank range by Rui Patricio.
Wolves held on for three points that move them to fifth, on 19 points.
AFC Bournemouth drop to 11th with 16.
