Wilfried Zaha volleyed in his 50th career league goal as Crystal Palace claimed a 1-0 win against Southampton, their first at Selhurst Park in an opening match of a Premier League season.
Southampton started the brighter, with Jack Stephens’ header saved by Vicente Guaita.
But Zaha put Palace ahead with a 13th-minute volley at the far post from Andros Townsend’s cross.
The visiting team fought hard in the second half for a response, with Nathan Redmond denied by Guaita before the Palace goalkeeper brilliantly saved Che Adams' volley on 53 minutes.
Guaita then denied Danny Ings a stoppage-time equaliser as Palace held on for the three points.
