Chris Wood's early strike and the heroics of goalkeeper Nick Pope earned Burnley their first Premier League victory of the campaign against Crystal Palace at Turf Moor.
A deft touch by Jay Rodriguez sent Wood through after eight minutes, and the New Zealander side-footed in the decisive goal from close range.
Palace went close to equalising when Andros Townsend's effort was tipped over the crossbar by Pope eight minutes before half-time.
Burnley's Johann Gudmundsson cracked a shot against the crossbar on 55 minutes, nearly marking his 100th Premier League appearance with a goal.
Michy Batshuayi then forced Pope into action following a loose pass by Dwight McNeil and in added time substitute Christian Benteke brought an even better save from the Burnley goalkeeper, who took a knock to the head as he kept the ball out with his left hand.
Sean Dyche's men held on to move out of the bottom three on five points.
Palace are 10th with 13 points.
