Southampton held on to a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur after playing more than 45 minutes with 10 men at St Mary’s Stadium.
The home side were rewarded for their strong start when James Ward-Prowse superbly sliced in a loose clearance from inside the area on 25 minutes.
But the match turned just before half-time when Mohammed Salisu conceded a penalty on Son Heung-min, earning a second yellow card. Harry Kane scored the resulting spot-kick for his third goal in as many matches.
Spurs dominated after the break, with Fraser Forster making a good low save to deny Matt Doherty before two late substitutes almost struck.
Armando Broja nearly snatched it for Southampton, but was denied by Davinson Sanchez’s block. Then Kane headed just wide in stoppage time.
A third match unbeaten for Southampton lifts them to 13th on 21 points.
Spurs extend their unbeaten start under Antonio Conte to seven matches and are sixth on 30 points.
