Christian Eriksen made his debut for Brentford but was unable to save his side from defeat as Newcastle United won 2-0 to leapfrog their hosts.
Brentford were reduced to 10 men in just the 11th minute after a VAR review led to Josh Dasilva being awarded a red card for a foul on Matt Targett.
Newcastle capitalised in the 33rd minute, when Joelinton headed in Ryan Fraser's hanging cross.
Eddie Howe's team struck again at the end of the half, when Fabian Schar advanced and freed Joe Willock, who scored his second goal in two matches.
Eriksen came off the bench in the 52nd minute for his first appearance since suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 last summer, but was unable to engineer a comeback.
Newcastle, who are unbeaten in seven matches, climb to 14th on 25 points, a place and a point ahead of Brentford, and four points off the relegation zone.
