    MAN OF THE MATCH?

    Club reports

Everton's resurgence continued as they claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win at West Ham United thanks to a Dominic Calvert-Lewin strike, his 50th goal in the Premier League.

The striker produced a fine turn and finish just after half-time to give Everton their third win in their last five Premier League matches.

    How the match unfolded

West Ham had the best chance of the half through Jarrod Bowen. After a quiet opening to the match, Lucas Paqueta burst down the left wing before squaring the ball to Bowen. However, the club’s top scorer this season scuffed his effort wide of the post.

Jack Harrison was up next, pouncing on a defensive error and driving towards the West Ham box. The winger’s strike was weak, though, and was easily claimed by Alphonse Areola.

But six minutes after half-time Calvert-Lewin broke the deadlock for Everton. The striker produced a smart shift and turn inside the box before unleashing a strike into the bottom-left corner.

The goal was a landmark moment for Calvert-Lewin as he became the fourth Everton player to reach 50 Premier League goals after Tim Cahill, Duncan Ferguson and Romelu Lukaku.

Everton then came close to a second goal. Calvert-Lewin flicked on a long ball, and Abdoulaye Doucoure latched onto it before producing a fine strike which Areola tipped round a post.

West Ham applied pressure on Everton’s goal in the closing stages, but were unable to find a breakthrough.

The victory lifts Everton up 15th with 10 points from as many matches.

West Ham have now lost their last three matches in all competitions as they stay in ninth on 14 points.
